Notice to Disconnect

By Jim Anderson

100wordchallengelogo

When Carly read the notice to disconnect, she couldn’t decide whether to go shake Jack awake or strangle him in his sleep. So she just stood there. The front room of the double-wide was filled with morning sunshine. The light hurt her eyes, but made her think. Calmer, she entered the bedroom.  Her eyes took a minute to adjust. Then she stepped around the room, picking out her things. His wallet was on the dresser.  She left it there untouched. She hesitated in the doorway, watching Jack breathe. He looked so young, so beautiful! She watched him a long time.

I wrote this story for the 100 Word Challenge #337 at Velvet Verbosity.

Makes me wonder what lead to her decision to disconnect so completely too. So much said in so few words.

This was beautiful. Leaves me wanting more of the story, and yet at the same time tells enough to satisfy.
